In the past ten years, our members have played a central role in the implementation of arts education programs in Los Angeles County Schools.
• Finding #3: We are resilient and committed.
Despite the freezing of funds for LAUSD’s ACPN program, 71.1% of our organizations are still providing services to LAUSD schools.
• Finding #4: Our services are wide-ranging.
Collectively, our members offer the largest possible spectrum of services to schools as well as bridges to other learning and professional communities.
Consortium members’ activities do not limit themselves to art education: 90.9% of respondents serve audiences outside of school settings.
The arts organizations comprised in the Consortium play a positive role across generations and cultures in most aspects of civic life in Los Angeles County.
• Finding #5: We are embedded in our communities.
47.6% of respondents report that locally elected officials are connected to their organization’s mission; 56.8% serve on community-based boards of directors or advisory groups; 72.7% offer children/youth in their community opportunities in arts learning outside of school settings.
Consortium members’ galleries, theatres, studios, and centers offer neighborhoods a go-to place for positive outcomes, while their artists provide children with models of high standards, tolerance, creativity, and resourcefulness.
• Finding #6: We bring money to the field of arts education.
72.7% of respondents state that they have raised money to fund arts education programs in schools. Arts organizations raise funds for arts education and offer cost-effective or free standards-based programs to schools. Schools only pay a portion of the planning, design, training and implementation costs that go into the creation of these programs.
• Finding #7: We are highly trained, we are a professional learning community, and we are leaders in our field.
81.8% of respondents state that their organization has undergone specific training in arts education, 68.1% offer ongoing professional development to their teaching artists, 97.7% assess their programs, 72.7% have had their programs assessed by a third-party evaluator, 68.1% speak or present at professional conferences, and 45.4% participate in research in the field of arts education.
By partnering with the Los Angeles Arts Consortium, school districts give children access to a highly professional group of providers who uphold high standards for art, education, and arts education.
